Student Experience

Colleagues must take collective, cooperative and proactive responsibility for improving all aspects of the student experience through addressing student and peer review feedback, engaging with programme improvement activities and undertaking training (see Career Development and Training). This includes constructive engagement with appropriate committees and student partnership activities.

Student engagement Attending and contributing to Departmental/Programme events are normal activities expected for any lecturer. Organising (perhaps in partnership with student societies) events and activities (e.g. employability/alumni events, guest lectures, etc.) is an example of advanced activity. Leading the efforts to improve student engagement of a Department/School, coordinating the plans of UG/PGT Directors and Programme Directors, contributing to the School SEAP, chairing working groups to explore innovative ways to improve student engagement are examples of strategic leadership.
Student Support Showing awareness of and being able to signpost the support that student can receive at School and University level are normal activities expected for any lecturer. Leading the welfare support team and chairing fitness to study panels are examples of advanced activities.  
Programme/Curriculum Development Regularly reviewing and updating the course outline/syllabus of a module, in line with the ILOs of a programme, are normal activities expected for any lecturer. Designing and submitting a programme amendment, serving as programme reviewer, being the proposer of a new programme (NPP1) or leading a Curriculum Review are examples of advanced activities.  
Student experience Being aware of NSS/TEF schemes, reflecting on CUS at module level are normal activities expected for any lecturer. Overseeing and taking responsibility for the student experience at Department/Programme level (according to various measures including NSS/TEF/CUS), producing a Student Experience Action Plan at Programme Level are examples of advanced activities. Overseeing and taking responsibility for the student experience at School/Faculty level (according to various measures including NSS/TEF/CUS/Graduate Outcomes), producing a Student Experience Action Plan are examples of advanced activities.
