Flexible Working Champions Initiative

Become a Flexible Working Champion!

Here in the School of Biological Sciences (SBS) we have Gold Ambition for Athena Swan.

One way that we can do this in SBS is continue to support and promote flexible working. We want people in SBS to understand the many benefits of flexible working for wellbeing, employee engagement, recruitment, inclusion and sustainability.

We also want to be pragmatic about what is important to everyone at the University in their everyday lives and we believe a little time spent as a Flexible Working Champion could make a big difference to colleagues who are trying to make flexible working a success.

In order to do that we are asking for colleagues in our School to become Flexible Working Champions. Ideally champions will have some experience of working flexibly themselves, or will have managed or be part of a team that includes flexible workers.

Champions will:

♦ Share their flexible working story with others.
♦ Help colleagues to make a success of flexible working.
♦ Support colleagues who are making a request for flexible working.

If you are positive about the difference flexible working can make for our people and our University please contact Gemma Dale on gemma.dale@manchester.ac.uk to register as a Flexible Working Champion.

There is no fixed time commitment, just give what you can. We will provide training (approx. 1.5 hrs) on everything you need to know about the flexible working policy and relevant legislation. Support and further advice will be provided on an ongoing basis by HR. Anyone is welcome to be a champion – whatever your role at the University.
