Our January SR-EDI lunchtime webinar was focused on ‘staff diversity data’. We were joined by guest speakers, Sami Karamalla-Gaiballa and Lauren Stella, from the University’s EDI (equality, diversity and inclusivity) data analyst team. This forms a key part of the University’s EDI directorate.

Sami and Lauren introduced us to the different data categories collected by the university for different purposes including the charter marks such as Athena Swan (measuring gender diversity). Sami also described the University’s commitment to EDI. As well as exploring the University’ level data trends for staff, Sami and Lauren also described how this compared with school-level data (for SHS). Lauren then ran an interactive quiz where attendees guessed the figures that best described different diversity scenarios.

We had around 23 attendees join online. Some we answered correctly, and some were surprising different from the audience’s answers.

The EDI team are encouraging all staff to complete as much of their data as possible via StaffNet so that a more accurate picture can be gathered of the diversity in our University.
