Annual report 2026: UK patient and general population data, 2013-2023
Date of publication: this report was originally published in February 2026. Version 2 was published in March 2026. Version 2 of the report includes refinements to the wording of three of the clinical messages in the infographic (see the change log for details). The clinical findings of the report have not changed.
Our 2026 annual report provides findings relating to people aged ten and above who died by suicide between 2013 and 2023 across the UK (England, Northern Ireland, Scotland, and Wales) and Jersey. It includes findings and clinical recommendations on people who died by suicide under recent (less than12 month) care of mental health services. Additional findings are presented on the number of people under mental health care who have been convicted of homicide, and those in the general population in the UK.
In this year’s report we also present data on specific topics, some of which reflect current concerns in suicide prevention or groups who may be at increasing risk. These include patients under crisis care settings, older patients aged 75 and above, those with a primary diagnosis of anxiety disorder, and patients who were recent migrants.
