Littlewood et al, 2019

Using hybrid thematic analysis, this study aimed to examine over 2,000 clinicians’ views of what constitutes good practice in mental healthcare services in the context of suicide prevention.

Five themes illustrating optimal practice to help keep patients safe were found:

  • the promotion of safer environments;
  • the development of stronger relationships with patients and their carers;
  • the provision of timely access to tailored and appropriate care;
  • facilitating seamless transitions between services and discharge from services;
  • the importance of staff training, support, and resourcing.
